Well, 6 months later...

Self-Portrait

I'm currently on day 2 (but 3, really) of my European adventure. The adventure I poorly planned, but decided to embark on anyways.

The photo to the left is a self-portrait from 2011. I took it while living on Anderson street in my first Savannah apartment while attending my 1st SCAD quarter. The photo means a lot to mean now, all of a sudden, because it's of my eye. The same eye that I force up against my Canon's viewfinder everyday in hopes of sharing some of what, that eye in particular, receives & processes on a regular basis. The name I chose to represent my work is akyeler, pronounced as oc-u-lar: of or connected with the eyes or vision.

I am in Amsterdam to find out everything I can about the sex-trade & human trafficking in Europe before I pursue answers & consider solutions in America & the Dominican Republic. My first blog post was written with the intent to start IN America, where most remain oblivious to the facts of the matter, but it appears as if that'll be my last stop, so-to-speak. I'll be venturing Europe until August 12th, in the Dominican Republic over Thanksgiving, and possibly may start documenting the United Stated by the beginning of next year. I am really bad at sitting down to write all of the thoughts & experiences & photos I collect, so be patient, but follow along if you can.
