"We are responsible for what we are, and we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act."
Sometimes, I fail to see an opportunity in my life that has made itself available to me. I have learned how important it is to take action on a regular basis in order to find and seize those sometimes subtle opportunities. I created a series of photographs based on this concept.
I depicted a sequence of discoveries and decisions being made in order to obtain a certain goal throughout the series of images. I used specific objects as symbols of possibility and pro-activity to reflect my thoughts on the matter. We, as humans, tend to internalize the possibilities of failure and success, of hopes and fears. The images express the notion that opportunity is ever-present; we just have to recognize and take hold of it. I chose to incorporate a window to represent opportunity and the door to represent the action.
These images encourage the viewers to seize opportunity in their own lives, just as I have learned to.
